**Santa Cruz Radio's Prodigal Son Returns**
Comedy/interview program The Sound of Young America added to KUSP lineup
Santa Cruz, CA 8/30/06 -- After months in the public radio hinterlands, The Sound of Young America is returning to Santa
Cruz's airwaves, bringing good humor and smart conversation with it. The Santa Cruz born-and-bred program, hosted by Jesse
Thorn, "America's Radio Sweetheart," will air Sundays at 6PM on local NPR affiliate KUSP-FM. The station hopes the program
will continue its success in the Monterey Bay Area media market, and will draw new, younger listeners to its airwaves. KUSP is the first NPR-affiliated station to carry the show on a weekly basis.
"Santa Cruz is the home of The Sound of Young America, and I couldn't be happier that KUSP is taking a chance on this show," said Thorn.
In the years following its launch as a college radio show in 2000, The Sound of Young America became one of Santa Cruz's
favorite radio programs, repeatedly winning newspaper reader polls and drawing significant praise in the local press. More
recently, the show has launched a national network, airing on more than half a dozen stations.
The show's podcast, launched in January of 2005, has become one of the most popular programs on the internet, generating over
half a million unique program downloads. The podcast has been featured in Time Magazine, Salon.com, the Wall Street Journal,
and in alternative newspapers as far away as Philadelphia and Montreal.
